Vojislav Karanović was born on 1 January 1961 in Subotica. He received a degree in Yugoslav and general literature from the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. He works as culture editor at Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). He writes poetry, radio plays and essays. He lives in Belgrade.

He has published eleven books of poetry and one collection of essays. For his poetry he has received the most eminent national literary awards. The poetry collection The Rush of Light was declared the Serbian book of the year 2003. His poems have been translated into several foreign languages.
