Uladzimir Arlou [Уладзімір Арлоў], born 1953 in Polazk, Belarus. He studied History in Minsk and worked as a teacher in Nawapolazk. 1976-1986 he worked as an editorial journalist for the newspaper Chimik (Хімік).

From 1988 he was an editor with Mastazkaja Litaratura (Мастацкая літаратура) publishing house. Since 1997 Arlou is working for the editorial department of the Kryniza (Крыніца) magazine.

Since 1986 Arlou is a member of the Belarusian PEN Club . During Perestroika time he joined the Belarusian People's Front (BNF) in 1988 and left the CPSU in 1989. From 1992 he was a member of parliament for the BNF twice.

Arlou published his first poems 1976 in the almanacs Blaktitny lichtar (Блакітны ліхтар) and Milawiza ( Мілавіца).

He writes poems, historic prose and essays and is now Head of the Belarusian PEN Club.

Arlou is married and has two sons.
