Rita Taborda Duarte, born in Lisbon, in 1973, is a poet, university teacher, author of children’s books and regularly writes about poetry and essay, in various publications. In 1998, she published her first poetry book (Brief Poetics, Black Sun Editores), followed by two others: In the Strange House of One Other and Of the Meanings of Things. In 2003, she won the Branquinho da Fonseca Expresso-Gulbenkian award, with the book The True Story of Alice. Since then, she has written regularly for children and youngsters, having published a dozen works, many of them included in the National Reading Plan.

In 2015 she published the poetry book Ruptures and Ligaments (Abysmo) in partnership with André da Loba (illustrations). The Ears of Karenin (Abysmo, 2019), with drawings by Pedro Proença, is her latest poetry book, a finalist of the SPA Authors Award 2020 and finalist of the Literary Prize Casino da Póvoa – Correntes d’Escritas.

Once upon a time, on a meeting in a school library, a boy soundly called her an “enfantil” writer (the Portuguese word for ‘childhood’, ‘infantil’, is spelled with an “I”, not an “E”). Since that day, she has taken on the epithet and has fun playing childishly with words.
