Raymond Antrobus, born in London in 1986, is a Jamaican-British poet who has published two pamphlets and two poetry collections. He was already awarded the Rathbones Folio Prize in 2019 for his first book, The Perseverance. That same year, he received the Ted Hughes Award.
Antrobus writes autobiographical poems about his relationship with his parents and his experience of deafness, which he was diagnosed with at the age of six.
Iranian-American poet Kaveh Akbar says of Antrobus’s writing, “It is magical how this poet is able to bring so much together – deafness, race, masculinity, his mother’s dementia, his father’s dying – with what skill. Raymond Antrobus is an exploratory poet the likes of which you probably won’t find today.”
