Odile Kennel lives in Berlin as a poet and translator of mainly contemporary poetry from French, Portuguese, Spanish and English. She writes in German and French and likes to invite other languages in her texts. She has translated Angélica Freitas, Ricardo Domeneck, Luiza Neto Jorge, Jacques Darras and Lisette Lombé, among others. In her essay Lust (2021) and her poetry collection Hors Texte (2019), she explores the space between text and sex and lets languages engage with each other. Her first volume of poetry, oder wie heißt diese interplanetare Luft, was published by dtv in 2013, as were two novels, Was Ida sagt (2011) and Mit Blick auf See (2017). She was nominated for the Alfred Döblin Prize for the latter. In 2022, she received the Paul Scheerbart Prize for her poetry translations. Lust was shortlisted for the Book Women's Prize in 2023. Her poetry collection irgendetwas dazwischen was published by Verlagshaus Berlin in 2023.
