Milan Jesih (b. 1950) is a poet, dramatist and translator, who studied comparative literature in Ljubljana, now he is a freelance writer. In the late 1960s he started out in the neo-avant-garde literary-performance group before growing disillusioned with ideological and aesthetic projects. A winner of all important national prizes (The Prešeren Prize, The Jenko Award and The Veronika Award), Jesih translated more than forty plays (Shakespeare, Chekhov, Bulgakov etc.).

He has published following books of poems: Uran v urinu, gospodar! (Uraniu in Urine, Lord!, 1972), Legende (Legends, 1974), Kobalt (Kobalt, 1976), Volfram (Volfram, 1980), Usta (Mouth, 1985), Soneti (Sonnets, 1989), Soneti drugi (New Sonnets, 1993), Jambi (Iambs, 2000), and his work has been translated into several European languages.
