Harris Khalique was born on 20 October 1966 in Karachi, Pakistan. He is one of the few published bilingual poets of the region who are acclaimed in all the languages they use for creative expression. Khalique is considered one of the most accomplished among the generation of writers and poets who started publishing in early 1990s.

Harris Khalique has a master’s degree in development management and development studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from N.E.D. University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi.

He has worked for development and human rights organisations in South Asia and Europe. He is the chief executive of Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) since June 2002. SPO is the largest Pakistani organisation that focuses on institutional capacity building of community-based and public interest organisations.

Khalique has published six collections of poetry in English and Urdu, a book of essays that he co-wrote with an Indian author, “Unfinished Histories” (2002), and a discussion paper on Pakistan’s question of identity. Besides, he contributes to literary magazines and journals of South Asia.
