The Ukrainian poet, critic and literary scholar Bohdana Matiyash (Богдана Матіяш) was born on January 28, 1982 in Kyiv. From 1998 to 2004 she studied philology, history and comparative literature at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and obtained her PhD with a thesis on the phenomenon of silence in literature. Matiyash is also a literary critic and editor of the cultural magazine and publishing house Krytyka. She translates from Polish and Belarusian (e.g. Mariusz Szczygiel and Andrzej Stasiuk).

Already in 2004, Matiyash was awarded the literature prize of the publishing house Smoloskyp. Her lyrical debut Neprojavleni znimky was published in 2005. Further collections of poetry followed and earned her the reputation of being one of the most influential voices of the younger Ukrainian poetry scene.

Bohdana Matiyash lives in Kyiv.
