gülün saltanat devrinden
ne sevdikse bugünden
ve ne kaldıysa dünki
acıyı yakuta döndürsün
hüznü döndürsün elmasa
akşam en güzel masaldır çünki

evening is the most beautiful of tales,
if it be told well
in every true thing there's a little
rage, a little fear
so a story tells
as the glass grows fine the wine too refines
life goes crimson from pain
death goes white from sorrow
and if a rose comes
it comes by this fork in the road
certainly and somehow
there is no more dire banishment
than the exile wrought by our own hands
if we live or live not
the decree to hope and autumn is this:
whatever of the rose's reign
we loved in today
and whatever of yesterday remained,
to ruby let it turn pain,
sorrow let it turn to diamond
for evening is the most beautiful of tales,
if it be told well
