kitajščina | BEI Ling

Time Like a Fallen Horse

angleščina

When the fallen horse of time
Bursts open, one instant a lifetime
A giant horse’s head
Wind…collaring its throat

All faces are going through apocalypse
Pull together, a kiss of steel
Last cleansing in a dry night
Riddle, penetrate the whole body

kitajščina | BEI Ling

For Dreams to Linger and for Time

angleščina

For dreams to linger and for time
Water warms water
Iron left to grow cold
Wishes are pressed into a paper’s surface

Break away, pass through entire rooms
Rattle sounds out of piano strings
Even wake stones flat on the ground
Grim line of silent mouth

For dreams to linger and for time

Void

angleščina

Coiled flat or running circles on the sea
Plying emptily, the needle’s eye
Vast settling of debris
Time has been cast as a bell

紀念

kitajščina | BEI Ling

Memorial

angleščina

for the victims,  June 4, 1989

Gone is the violence I witnessed
The fruits it engendered
Now baptized in tides of hatred
Again makes known its prophecy

Disaster, calm and total
Joins with pain that is my own
To stand rooted beneath a pendulum
An entire corps in a cortege
Paying mourning rites to memory

Yet the past can bear no guilt
Creeping age, in spreading circles of futility
Forces youth to kneel repentantly
Youth is branded with the death-mark

Winter has its freedom
In the naked barrenness
Dreams possess illusions
As imaginings have rationality
Rearing up in acts of lone endurance
They show the weary strength of memory

A journey onward
Is fraught, as if by a curse,
With the force of a heroic end

宿

kitajščina | BEI Ling

Resting Place

angleščina

A pall has been cast over everything
The misfortune of our birth
Is stamped on the features of a race
Like sunlight hanging over the horizon
See how words of self-pity are repeated to distraction
Till the time for words is gone

We have not been baptized
Yet we stay in God’s favored country
Known as “the Beautiful,” a beautifully crumbling land
Only by grace of enmity
Are we provided for

Like widening rings of growth
We fight endless, tireless battles with memory
We do battle with our origins by birth
In the sweep of time enacting an interplay
Of death and eternity, life and fetility
In a gigantic empire exhibiting
This preserve of lonely ideology
That belongs to us
