Carolina Pihelgas was born in Tallinn in 1986. She studied theology at the University of Tartu. To date, Pihelgas has published five collections of poetry, most recently Valgus kivi sees (The Light Within the Stone, 2019).

Pihelgas is the editor-in-chief of the Estonian literary journal Värske Rõhk, which focuses on young authors. She has also translated poetry by Constantine Cavafy, Sappho, Tor Ulven, Bo Carpelan, Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Octavio Paz, Nikola Madzirov, and many other authors into Estonian.

Pihelgas received the Gustav Suits Award for Poetry in 2012.
