Plaer de viure
каталанский | Montserrat Abelló
Plaer de viure, d'estar
asseguda i contemplar
com cau la tarda.
Tarda d'un gris lluminós
ara que el dia s'allarga.
I ser feliç com Epicur
amb el poc que vull
al meu abast.
I, en no esperar
ja res d'un més enllà,
no tenir por de la vida
ni de la mort.

Pleasure of Living
английский
Pleasure of living
To be seated gazing
at the fading afternoon
Today in a glittering grey
now that days become longer.
And to feel happy as Epicurus
with the few things I want
at arm’s reach.
And in not expecting
anything from an everafter,
not to be afraid of life
or death.
Set
каталанский | Montserrat Abelló
Set
això sí que sé el que és
com la sentia
en aquell carrer on -dreta
davant d'una porta- em deien
"no se sap res"
I aquell anar i venir,
com sempre,
però amb aquella set !
Set, insaciable,
d'aigua.
Set que corsecava, la boca
espessa
un dia rere l'altre.
Quantes vegades vaig sentir
aquelles paraules que
en sospesar-les
em semblaven buides.
La set
me la imaginava d'aigua
I ara sí que puc dir que
aquesta altra set
tan fonda que clama
també ho és d'aigua.

Thirst
английский
Thirst
I know what it is like.
how I felt it
in that street –where standing
in front of a door, they said:
“We know nothing”
And that coming and going,
as usual,
but with that thirst1
A quenchless thirst,
for water.
A clogging thirst that dried up
one’s mouth
one day after another.
How many times
had I heard those words that,
on considering them,
seemed to me empty.
Thirst,
I imagined being for water
And now I can say that
this other kind of thirst
so deep and demanding
is also for water
Tot és un immens buit
каталанский | Montserrat Abelló
Tot és un immens buit
recordar voldria tants noms
que ja no retinc.
I la nit esdevé cada cop
més fosca, més misteriosa,
Amb l'encens espès de flors
esfullades, de nines esventrades.
De retaules vivents;
de terribles imatges
de pobles vençuts, de cossos
llençats dins fosses comunes.
I voldria tenir el do de poder
aplacar-ne el dolor.
De cridar sense fre
d'oblidar
tanta impotència.

Everything is an immense void
английский
Everything is an immense void
I would like to remember so many
names I no longer recall
And night becomes darker
and darker, more mysterious.
With the heavy scent of
shedded petals, of broken dolls.
Of live altarpieces;
with terrible pictures
of vanquished countries, of bodies
thrown into common graves.
And I would like to have the power
of mitigating such pain. .
Of crying without restraint,
of forgetting
so much impotence
Deixa que el vent
каталанский | Montserrat Abelló
Deixa que el vent
esgarrapi el son i que la veu
resti sotmesa.
Traç lleu i persistent
que es grava lent sobre la pell.
Una cicatriu inesborrable.
El llum del menjador.
L'ombra de la mà
damunt del paper.

Let wind
английский
Let wind
scratch sleep and voice
remain submitted
And dip your fingers into
memories, in subtle
whirlings of light.
They are true stories those
that concoct time;
and sighs are lost in the air
and through door panels
cries escape.
Fugitive memory
not the shuddering, the fear
of imprecise speaking or knowledge.
A light and persistent trace
engraving itself slowly on the skin.
An ineffaceable scar.
The dining-room light.
The shadow of a hand
on a sheet of paper.
