Péter Zilahy was born in Budapest in 1970. He studied philosophy and cultural anthropology at ELTE University in Budapest.

He was a lecturer at BME University between 1995-98. He was editor in chief of Link Budapest, an Internet magazine for contemporary literature in English and Hungarian between 1997-1999.

He is editor of JAK Books international series since 1998, where among others (Victor Pelevin, Ian McEwan, Arnon Grunberg) he published young German authors (Ingo Schulze, Jenny Erpenbeck, Kathrin Röggla).

He is a many sided author who has often used photography, interactive media and performance art in his works. He was a visiting scholar at New York University in 2001. In 2002 Ludwig Museum in Budapest made an exhibition from his photographs, digital prints and interactive artworks. His volume of poetry,"A Statue Under a White Sheet Ready to Jump", was published by Pesti Szalon in 1993.

His dictionary novel ’The Last Window Giraffe’ was published in 1998 by Abo Ovo and has since been translated into 11 languages. The German translation was made by Terézia Mora. Saarländische Rundfunk and Deutschland Radio has made a radioplay from the book in 2001. A rock band was also named after the book. A multimedia CD-ROM in four languages was developed from his works by C3 Center in Budapest between 1999-2001. The CD-ROM had its first international debut in LiteraturWERKstatt in May 30th 2001. Since then the author has performed with his literary movie in over twenty cities from New York to Athens. More information on his multimedia CD-ROM is at http://azs.c3.hu or azs@c3.hu .
