Ana María Rodas (12. 9. 1937, Guatemala City, Guatemala) is, besides being a poet, the first Guatemalan woman to work as a reporter. She began her work at sixteen at the National Palace for “La Nación”, “El Gráfico”, “El Imparcial”, “La Tarde” and “El Impacto”.

Since the eighties, she has been a professor of literature and journalism at the University of San Carlos de Guatemala. She has also taught journalism in the School of Communication Sciences at the University 'Rafael Landívar.'

Her poems have been published in anthologies in Spanish, English and German, in Central America, the United States, England, Colombia, Mexico, Vienna, Italy and Germany.

In 2002 she was awarded the Guatemalan National Prize of Literature, and in 1974 the Journalists Association of Guatemala granted her the 'Freedom of Press' Prize, which is given only to those journalists whose work is exemplary in the defense of that fundamental freedom.
