Pavel Novotný, born in 1976 in Liberec in the Czech Republic, frequently works with montage and collage techniques and experiments in radio compositions with the auditive possibilities of poetry. He is the Director of the German Language Department at Liberec Technical University and also translates such writers as H. M. Enzensberger, G. Rühm, K. Bayer and T. Bernhard into Czech. He has published a number of collections of poetry and text series. A selection from his poetry collections and text cycles is currently being translated into German. Since 2007 Novotný has been working on his multi-layered project Tramvestie, which deals with a ride on a tram from multiple perspectives. He has composed a number of radio pieces for the Czech Radio ČRo3 and was awarded the “Prix Bohemia Radio” for his composition “Vesmír” [Universe] in 2010. Together with Jaromír Typlt he staged Kurt Schwitter’s “Ursonate” and has also adapted it for the Czech Radio. As a scholar of literature his research interests include literary montage and collage as well as the possibilities of auditive and radiophonic poetry.
