The poet Ahmed Bekheit was born in 1966 in Assiut, Egypt, and grew up in Cairo, where he still lives.
He studied Arabic literature and Islamic studies at the University of Cairo and afterwards continued teaching there. In 1995 he decided to abandon his academic career and to consecrate himself to literature.
Ahmed Bekheit was awarded numerous prizes for his poetic work in Egypt, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Marocco.
He published several collections of poetry. Besides poems he also writes lyrics.
