Ruth had a dream
She had had many such dreams 
She was then with her other lovers
This time she was by herself on the bed
And this was a different town
This time the snow had started to fall right from midnight
And outside her home 
Early this morning separated the two lovers
After a quarrel

Ruth’s dream was not a trivial one
She had seen a philosopher saint
Sitting under a dense tree
Explaining to her the meaning of being
Language is the whole universe, he said
And within it only solitude and love are possible

Ruth was doubtful
After all she had forever been within language
But she never got love in return for love
And her solitude was filled with
The torments of father and the timidity of mother
Somehow into it had wandered a few lovers
Who left merely their beds behind

Ruth wishes to see
This dream over and over again
If only to get to know
How to acquire in language, 
The warmth of the sparkling solitude
How to survive in this city of snow
