Diepe Tijd

néerlandais | Dominique De Groen

In de nucleaire schemerzone
hebben de dieren, planten
en mineralen van de eilanden
ongeziene krachten verworven

Eonen verstrijken:

Cactaceaceen
Birgusceen
Limulidaceen

de kleuren trekken weg uit dingen
vloeien smeltend samen in het zand
dat steeds harder
steeds gesatureerder straalt

en al de markten
die in de loop der eeuwen
lukraak op elkaar zijn gestapeld

storten een voor een in

tot heel de
bouwvallige structuur
naar beneden komt

en een harde geometrische plas vormt
waarin de dieren zwemmen
tussen dood geld.

Overal ontstaan nieuwe organismen
in een explosie van leven
zoals in het Cambrium.

Op een oeroud eiland
van plastic
vermenigvuldigen polystyreenmossen zich
in de schaduw
van oude, eerbiedwaardige polyesterbomen.

Hier leven de geesten van mensen.

Deep Time

anglais

In the nuclear twilight
the animals, the plants
and the minerals of the earth
have acquired unparalleled powers
many times greater than those of humans.

Eras elapse:

Cactaceacene
Birguscene
Limulidacene.

The colors bleed out of things
and glob together in the sand
which radiates with increasing intensity
and soaring saturation

and all the markets
that have piled up
haphazardly over the centuries

collapse one by one

until the whole
ramshackle structure
comes down

and forms a hard, geometric puddle
of dead currency
teeming with animals.

New organisms spring up everywhere
in an explosion of life
of Cambrian proportions.

On an ancient island
of plastic
polystyrene mosses multiply
in the shadow
of venerable, old
polystyrene trees.

Here live the spirits of mankind.

Ijs

néerlandais | Dominique De Groen

Eindeloos strekt de vlakte zich uit
wit onder de brandende zon:

uitdijend land van schitterend plastic
badend in het groenige schemerlicht
van een nucleaire winter.

Op het zwarte, Arctische ijs
jagen we op algen

grauwe dubbels
van de eerste mensen
kauwend op een bittere, grijnzende plant.

Een gebleekt, broos koraalrif
begraven onder golven van zand
biedt onze zachte lichamen bescherming:

het dode rif
is nog steeds poreus
absorbeert de toxische stralingen
de minuscule, gifgroene kristallen.

De nog levende planten
zijn zwart en kleverig
als olie.

Ze grijnzen:

de hegemonie
van het zonnekapitalisme
de economie van fotosynthese
loopt ten einde.

Uit sluimerende bacterieën
diep in het zwarte ijs
halen ze hun voedsel.

Met stemmen van slijm
fluisteren ze over de revolutie

een nieuwe tijdperk

een natte, donkere
ondergrondse zon.

Mijn lichaam loopt over
van gesmolten dieren
wachtend om te stollen
en herboren te worden.

Het oerslijm
dat me langzaam overspoelt
is zacht en nat

ruikt naar de ingewanden
van een ijsberg.

De geesten van de oude dieren
zijn schitterend in de nucleaire nacht.

Ice

anglais

The plains stretch out endlessly
white under the burning sun:

an expansive landscape of dazzling plastic
bathing in the green-tinted twilight
of a nuclear winter.

On the black, Arctic ice
we hunt for algae

gray doubles
of the first people
we chew on a bitter, grinning plant.

A bleached, fragile coral reef
buried under waves of sand
offers our soft bodies protection:

the dead reef
is still porous
absorbing the miniscule, poison-green crystals
of toxic radiation.

The surviving plants
are black and sticky
like oil.

They grin:

the hegemony
of the sun's capitalism
the economy of photosynthesis
is coming to an end.

From slumbering bacteria
deep in the black ice
they steal their sustenance.

With voices of slime
they whisper of the revolution

a new era

a wet, dark
subterranean sun.

My body overflows
with molten creatures
waiting to congeal
and be reborn.

The ur-slime
that slowly washes over me
is black and wet

reeks of the guts
of an iceberg.

The spirits of the old animals
are dazzling in the nuclear night.

Supply Chain Management

néerlandais | Dominique De Groen

Iedere ochtend
wakker worden, levend begraven
onder $$$, fast fash & fluorescentiepoeder

in een helverlichte kelder:
een informele economie
een schaduweconomie
een territorium van scavengers.

De supply chain manager weet
dat de supply chain een machine is
die gevuld wordt met een grijze massa
waaraan arbeid wordt toegevoegd
en waar grijze valuta uitkomen.

De supply chain manager weet
dat je katoenplant
niet kan spellen zonder klant
en ook niet zonder $$$.

De supply chain manager weet
dat in een efficiënte bevoorradingsketen
het begin het einde in zich draagt

dat de supply chain
vanuit de ogen van een 4-dimensionaal wezen
een semitransparante
transcontinentale worm is

waarmee katoenfilamenten
in elkaar worden gedraaid
de hoek afhankelijk van de uitgeoefende kracht

van het natriumhydroxidebad
dat de katoenvezels elastischer maakt
gladder
strakker
geschikter voor penetratie door kleurstoffen

van de zandkorrels zonder vergunning
opgediept uit de Dhaleshwari

de optimale blast power
voor zacht & distressed denim

de witte wolkjes silica
in Savar Upazila
dat arbeiders uitkotst in Dhaka’s Cut Make Trim

Supply Chain Management

anglais

Every morning,
waking up, buried alive
under $$$, fast fash & fluorescent powder

in a brightly lit basement:
an informal economy
a shadow economy
a territory of scavengers.

The supply chain manager knows
that the supply chain is a machine
filled with a grey mass
where labour is added
and grey currency extracted.

The supply chain manager knows
that you can’t spell customers
without customs
nor without $$$.

The supply chain manger knows
that in an efficient supply chain
the beginning takes the end in its mouth

that through the eyes of a four-dimensional being
the supply chain is a semi-transparent,
transcontinental worm
with a cotton plant on one end
and a customer on the other

that the tentacles of the worm slither their way –

from the S-twist
by which the filaments are held together
the twist angle depending on the force exerted

to the sodium hydroxide bath
that makes the cotton fibres more elastic
smoother
flatter
more suitable for the penetration of dyes

to the grains of sand
dredged without permission
from the Dhaleshwari

the optimal blast power
for soft & distressed denim

the white clouds of silica
in Savar Upazila

to the weeds in the pavements of Barisal city
which vomits labourers into Dhaka’s Cut-Make-Trim factories

to the layer of sticky sweat
on my fingers
as I sort lingerie
that was tried on and rejected

to my intimate zone

follow the fold lines
from the check-out line
to the credit card flow

– a filament winds its way to my most intimate skin.

I feel the gaze of the supply chain manager under my layers of textile.
The supply chain manager’s fivers in my panties.

Shop girl: when the supply chain has flooded the shop floor
and temporarily receded
I go hunting in the neon slipstream

dredging up fallen pieces of fast fashion from the riverbed.

Shop girl: the shop floor dragged me out of myself
and here I stand naked
under the white light
in the middle of an object
heterogeneous and invisible
but solid.

Betaalzone

néerlandais | Dominique De Groen

Ik vind mijn lichaam terug
aan het einde van een supply chain
die non-stop in mij leegloopt.

Laat alles weer uit me vloeien.

absorbeert alles.

Zo volgepompt dat ik het internet niet nodig heb i’m already world wide
laat ik me sneller uitbuiten dan mijn schaduw

en droom een wereld
buiten deze zone
waar ik naar terugkeren kan
na het scannen van een barcode
of een vingerafdruk.

Shop floor without end:
oersoep, proteïsche massa of seminaal vocht

polyester
geëxpandeerd polystyreen.

Intimiteit sijpelt weg
uit mijn aanrakingen

vloeit terug
langs backward linkages.

Checkout zone

anglais

I find my body
at the end of a supply chain
that empties into me non-stop.

Let it all drain out of me.

No, you can take me out of the checkout zone
but you can’t take the checkout zone out of me.
The shop floor sticks to my insides,
absorbs everything it touches.

Pumped so full I don’t need the internet anymore
I’m already worldwide.

I’ll exploit myself faster than my shadow
and dream of a world
beyond this zone
where I can retreat to
after scanning a barcode
or fingerprint.

Shop floor without end:
ur-soup, protean mass or seminal fluid
the shop floor is wet
and outside the sun is shining.

I unravel a garment
until I can’t go on
and there’s no capitalism inside

and when I leave the space I won’t stop
relating to these objects
that I swallowed
so that I could touch myself.

My body becomes a poem about capital
and I’m stuck in clinging clouds

of elastane
polyester
expanded polystyrene.

The intimacy seeps
out of my caresses

to flow back later
via backward linkages.
