Youssef Rzouga (يوسف رزوقة )
Le temps des poetes
Le fil(s) chauve d'araignée
déambule librement
Et noue d'un regard furtif le
village MacLuhan
Ce n 'est qu 'un chemin : qu 'il
rythme son rêve autrement
Et qu 'il quitte enfin l'ombre :
ses grottes là, de han
Hé Hélène :
Cet enfant qui s'encapu-
chonne
Et déambule autour de la
terre
Haït les mères
Qui maudissent la guerre
C'est pour ça
Qu 'il tourne autour de la
terre
Et ne communique avec per-
sonne
Mais quand les cloches son-
nent
II se haït lui même
De son vilain silence
Et c'est pour ça
Qu 'il tourne autour de la
terre
Et ne communique qu'avec
Le revers de son âme.
Hé Hélène :
Ton enfant qui s'encapu-
chonne
Et tourne autour de la tour
Perd sa boussole
Et se met à danser
Avec son oursonne.
Un sentiment bizzare..
Me dit un certain chant
D'un certain Homère
Qui, en passant..
Peint l'univers : l'Iliade et
l'Odyssée
Et c 'est à nous, ici et main-
tenant..
Dé re-lire le fond perdu
Et le fondu terne de son
tableau..
Un sentiment bizarre, serein
et éphémère
Me dit un certain Homère
Issu d'un vilain Village
(MacLuhan, dit)
Qui, en passant..
La tour Eiffel s'incline
Ainsi que le cortège
..Seule la Rose
debout
insolente et indolente
..Se pose là..
Un temps de pose ?
Homère s'y absorbe
Et s'y perd
Tandis qu 'un rossignol voltige
Picore les fins pétales de la
Rose
Et fait le Printemps.
´
Et enfin......et si j'ose dire..
Je dis seulement une chose :
Que l'enfant ne dit qu 'un
poème : Que n 'importe qui,
peut et ose
Et c 'est pour cela qu 'il se
fout de ce monde, et dès qu'il
se pose
Debout : il ne peint qu'une
chose : Le rythme caché de la
rose.
Les Passeurs des Mots :
Où sont-ils ?
-Partout..
Dit l'Enfant
Qui, en passant..
Fait voltiger les rideaux.

Youssef Rzouga (*1957 in Mahdia, Tunisia) is one of the Maghreb's most important writers. His earliest poems date from the early 1970s. They are marked by their innovativeness and reveal their author's encyclopaedic knowledge covering not only literature but also mathematics, biology and physics. What is remarkable is his attitude to the various literary traditions he moves among, transferring, for instance, Arabic prosody into his poems written in French. His texts bear witness to an inexhaustible imagination, which makes itself apparent above all in totally original imagery. His aesthetic feel and his familiarity with the intonations of poetries from the Arab and European past have allowed him to find his own unmistakeable voice.
After studying in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Tunis, he studied political science at the Institute for Press and Information Sciences. He is currently working as a journalist. His contacts with younger poets in the course of his work in the Club du mercredi littéraire and as the head of the cultural section of the “Alayyam” newspaper, enabled Rzouga to have a great influence as an artist on the 1990s generation.
He has been distinguished with many prizes and awards, including the First Prize of the Culture Ministry of Tunisia three times (in 1981, 1985 and 1998). He received the Chebbi Prize in 2003, and he was awarded the Arabic Prize for Poetry in Jordan in 2004 and in Egypt in 2005.
