Georgian poet, prose-writer, translator and arts critic Shota Iatashvili was born in 1966. He is the author of more than fifteen books and published his first collection of poems The Wings of Death in 1993. After Georgia's independence he joined a group of socially committed artists who called themselves Tbilisi Performance Theatre and gathered together for literary performances and alternative actions, influenced by the American Beatniks movement.

From 1993-1997 he worked as an editor at the Republic Centre of Literary Critics (on the literary newspapers 'Rubikoni' and 'Mesame Gza'). Since 1998, he has been the editor of the publishing company “The Caucasian House” where he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Alternative”. Now he is editor-in-chief of the literary magazine “Akhali Saunje” and is responsible for the 'Library' section at Radio Liberty. 

He won several literary awards, e.g. the renowned SABA Prize for poetry and for criticism and was invited to numerous international literary festivals, such as EST-OUEST (France, 2006), Poetry International (Netherlands, 2007). ORIENT-OCCIDENT (Romania, 2006), the V and VI International Poetry Biennale Moscow (Russia, 2007, 2009).

He has translated Styles of Radical Will by Susan Sontag and an anthology of American poets into Georgian. His own works are translated into English, German, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Polish, Turkish, Albanian and Azerbaijani languages.
