Olli Heikkonen was born in 1965 in Kontiolahti in eastern part of Finland.

His first collection of poems entitled Jakutian aurinko (”The sun of Yakutia”) won the Helsingin Sanomat Literary Prize for the best first book of 2000.

He has published three other collections of poems: Kuinka maa muuttui musiikiksi (2003), Jäätikön ääri (2007) and Teoria kaikkein pienimmistä (2015). Teoria kaikkien pienimmistä (2915) won the Einari Vuorela Prize in 2017. 

His poems are also published in some anthologies and literature magazines.

Heikkonen was the editor of the Finnish Poetry Annual, MotMot 2000. He has also written some articles and essays.
