Mirela Ivanova [Мирела Иванова] was born in 1962 in Sofia. She studied Bulgarian and Russian philology at the Plovdiv University.

Ivanova is the author of six poetry books. She also writes essays, reviews on fiction and theatre performances, deals with literature history, translates from German, a.o. works of Elke Erb, Gregor Laschen, Durs Grünbein and Uwe Kolbe.

She is an author of scenarios for documentary films and published several anthologies of poetry that – among others – won her the Hubert Burda Award 2002.

Mirela Ivanova is one of the most famous modern poets in Bulgaria. Her poems have been translated into English, German, Spanish, Czech, Hungarian, Turkish and Serbian.
