Linda Vilhjálmsdóttir, born in 1958 in Reykjavík, worked part-time for many years as a nurse in cardiac, geriatric and psychiatric wards at the Reykjavík Hospital (1978-2000).
After first publications in newspapers and literary magazines, she made her debut in 1990 with the poetry collection Bláþráður. To date, she has published seven more volumes of poetry, several plays and an autobiographical novel in 2003.

Linda Vilhjálmsdóttir has received numerous prizes and awards for her literary work, including two literary awards from the daily newspaper DV, the Jón-úr-Vör-Poesiepreis and the Prize of the Icelandic Book Trade for the best volume of poetry in 2015. The volume frelsi was also nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize (2017) and brought her the title "European Poet of Freedom" 2018 in Gdansk.

Her poems have been published in various anthologies in English, Swedish, French, German and Galician.

In German the bilingual volume Alle schönen Worte / Frostschmetterlinge was published by Kleinheinrich (2011) and Freiheit im Elif Verlag (2018).
