Kajetan Kovič was born on October 21, 1931 in Maribor, Slovenia. Graduated in Comparative-Literature from the University of Ljubljana (1956). From 1958 until his retirement in 1992 he was editor for fiction and editor-in chief of the publishing house Državna založba Slovenije in Ljubljana. He spent some time studying in Paris and Prague, and participated in a number of writers` meetings truoghout Europe (Poetry International, Rotterdam 1996, Encontro international des poetas, Coimbra, Portugal 2001, Bienale Miteleuropa, Schiltigheim-Strasbourg 2001 etc.). Since 1991 member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
