Eftim Kletnikov - a poet, essayist, critic, translator and anthologist - was born in 1946 in the village of Negrevo - Maleshevo, in the Eastern part of Macedonia. He completed his primary education in Negrevo and in Pehcevo, and continued in the secondary school in Berovo. In 1969 he graduated from the Philosophical Faculty in Skopje, at the Department of literature of the South Slavic peoples with Slavic studies, that is Russian studies.

He has worked as a journalist in the editorial board of the magazine Mlad Borec. After that, he worked in the Republic Institution for the monuments of culture. He has been an editor and a member of the editorail boards of several literary magazines: Stremezh, Razgledi, Odjek (Saraevo) and Nashe Pismo. Besides books of poetry he has also written essays and criticism. His poetry is included in all the Macedonian poetry anthologies, published as well in Macedonia as abroad. Moreover, Kletnikov has edited several representative anthologies of contemporary Macedonian poetry. He translates from Russian, French, Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, Slovakian, Bulgarian.

In the period of the last four years Kletnikov held the position of the director of the Struga Poetry Evenings festival. He has received the highest literary awards in Macedonia. Whether in the form of separate books or selections, his poetry has been translated into Serbian, Croatian, English, French, Spanish, German, Turkish, Slovenian, Swedish, Russian and other languages.

He works and lives in Skopje, Macedonia.
