Donaldas Kajokas (b. 1953 in Prienai) is a poet and essay writer.

He graduated from the Lithuanian Physical Culture Institute and worked as a couch of calisthenics for a while. He also worked with the Lithuanian Literature Museum. Later he became a column writer with the magazine “Nemunas” and has been doing this job since. He is on the Council of Kaunas Section of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union.

His first book of poems “Walking the Ground Like the Summits” was published in 1980. More then ten volumes of poetry and essays followed.

In 1992 Kajokas received the Jatvingian Award, in 1995 he became the laureate of the yearly poetry event “Spring of Poetry”, in 1999 he received the National Award in literature.

Kajokas work has been translated into the English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Polish, Finnish, Hungarian, Georgian, Ukrainian, Latvian and Slovene languages.

Kajokas lives and works in Kaunas.
