the smallest army
inglés
it only took two of the same
to march, always two to make
the smallest army
not just small, the smallest
across the parking lots? yes
across parking lots
through the bushes? yes
through the bushes
through the reeds? yes
even through the reeds
and over the tree tops? no
never over the tree tops
but it marches and marches
this smallest army

Anderkatt

The Haircut
inglés
Gooseflesh because you speak of flesh
before you speak of fur
when you say mongoose—
bloated and terrible—
I see your hair, your cheek, and know
I would never groom that animal,
though even the beasts who bred it
would not claim it,
though the two of us be hugged
by a pair of scissors,
aren’t we still safe,
if breathless, if our fur sprouts thick between us,
gooseflesh because you speak of expeditions, because
you speak of the North before you speak of the ship,
a wave of fur collapses over that ship and holds tight
toward another shore where language is
as sore and particular as a furry export
of logic, where I only feel
what my dry mouth cannot utter.

kein Wohnungsbrand fände hier Platz, also Vorsicht; wenn
brauchen dich

inglés
The song of the smoke alarm fills two-thirds of the kitchen,
the exact ratio of wheel to peacock, of sparkle to fear,
but no easy fire finds room here, so watch out! Though
I am of no concern to you, I could malfunction
like a firefly landing
on a light switch in the night
waiting for the finger to end it, for light.
In any leather glove are five shrimps.
The fattest asks: Where are you, my skinny ones?
I hear your thin voices.
Here! We need you.

the fox at Sudkreuz
inglés
I was only taking pictures, then he followed me,
red and shy as that summer’s night
of blurred, crooked street signs, street lights,
the blood of the city caught by the net of my eye—
How do I keep him where no rival threatens? At home
I was rid of him, neither of us sated, though we both hide
from light, deep in a wish for underbrush.
My one stomach now growls just below my desk,
and the meat in this grocery bag isn’t getting any fresher.
