Efectes
a l’hora blava, quan deu mil ocells
estem
a punt
a punt
a punt
fa baixar
per uns segons
la intensitat
de les bombetes.
Ningú entén el per què.

Effects
inglés
It’s not at night but at dusk,
during the blue hour, when ten thousand birds
perched on electric cable
reach an agreement and hold their breath,
tense their wings and their heartbeat
quickens, the blood in their legs boiling
as they work out the windspeed,
as if it were the first time, as if it were
the last time, and they repeat to themselves
we are
ready
ready
ready
to span the sky and cross the continent.
The force of the impulse
reverberates along the metallic wire,
slowing down
for a few seconds
the intensity
of lightbulbs.
Nobody knows why.

Comptabilitzats:

Counted:
51 secrets embedded in the microscopic
dots of the pupils,
8 disappointments floating on the wavy
surface of the tear gland,
14 lies retained on the rough layer
of the tongue, with saliva,
27 sins hidden in the twilight
that inhabits the folds of flesh.
We are the brutality of the blindman’s stick
who, on meeting another,
trips him and makes him fall.
Brots
catalán | Anna Gual
Entre lletra i lletra
hi neix un munt d’herba
que no penso tallar.
He tornat a desenterrar significats,

Shoots
inglés
Between letter and letter
there is a handful of grass
that I won’t cut.
I have unearthed meanings again,
I have tensed words by joining them.
See how I watch,
how my body creaks
simply through the act of watching.
Stretching the definitions
like stretching your bones
when getting up.
Drawing out the sounds
so that the waves reach you
now that you are all the homes,
all the larders,
all the nuclear shelters.
Stop whispering
that you don’t want me beside your bed
if I write like this, I can hear you.
Things are not what they seem,
but all the rest.
Inundació
catalán | Anna Gual
I si no la veig? I si m’enfonso
abans que la vegi?
Què faig, eh, què faig? Obro els ulls
i que m’entri l’aigua pels forats?
Jo m’enfonso i no la veig.
Et ben juro que no la veig.
I això s’inunda, això va
cap avall com una mala cosa
i no la veig,
i no la veig
i no la veig
i no la veig i m’absorbeix.
I digue’m,
què he de fer si no m’espera
i decideix no aparèixer
i decideix aparèixer quan jo ja no la veig?
I és que això és el que passa
i és que no hi és
o no la veig i sí que hi és i molt m’enganya.
Obro la boca i que m’entri l’aigua
i si hi és
i és que no la veig
que vingui a treure’m
del mar negre,
que vingui a obrir-me
les costelles,
que em xucli l’aigua
dels pulmons.
Si hi és a temps, si apareix.

Flooding
inglés
What if I can’t see her? And I drown
before I do?
What do I do, eh, what do I do? Should I open my eyes
And let the water in through the holes?
I drown and I can’t see her.
I swear that I can’t see her.
And it’s flooding, it’s
Going down
And I can’t see her
Believe me, I can’t see her.
I move my arms
But the water absorbs me
And I can’t see her
And I can’t see her
And I can’t see her and it absorbs me.
So tell me
What can I do if she doesn’t wait
And decides not to turn up
And decides to turn up when I can no longer see her?
And that is what happens
She’s not there
Or I can’t see her and she is there and is tricking me.
I open my mouth and let the water in
And if she is there
And I can’t see her
Let her come and take me
From the black sea,
Let her come and open
my ribs
And suck the water
from my lungs.
If she is in time, if she turns up.
Ruderal

Unes semblances
inventades.
Un impuls vegetal que ja és meu.

Ruderal
inglés
The smallness of the minimal
is reborn.
It lies by the side of the road,
by the riverbank of the mental block.
Such determination
that of the little plant growing in the ditch,
disturbing the cement that strangles it.
Wild to the marrow,
I do my best to get close
to this plant,
to encourage it not to decline,
to copy its winning gesture.
Some invented
similarities.
A vegetal impulse which is already mine.
S'ha de fer un forat
catalán | Anna Gual
Agafo una pala i un rasclet
i començo a cavar cap avall,
trencant primer les rajoles,
esmicolant després el ciment
i la terra que el sosté i totes
les pedres que trobo les deso
a les butxaques per si
tot d’una visc una esllavissada
i cal fer un mur i esperar
que la cosa es calmi.
No vull pensar
on arribaré ni quan tardaré
ni si al final hi trobaré
algú cavant en sentit contrari.
Qui sap si xocaré,
sense tenir temps
per prevenir la col·lisió,
contra el cap d’algú
ple de fang i runa.

I must dig a hole
inglés
I take a spade and a rake
and I start digging,
breaking the tiles first,
shattering the concrete later
and the earth that sustains it all and
every stone that I find, I keep
in my pockets in case
I’m suddenly in a landslide
and have to build a wall and wait for
things to calm down.
I do not want to wonder
where I am going or how long it will take
or if, in the end, I will find
somebody else digging in the opposite direction.
Who knows if I will crash,
without time
to prevent the collision,
into someone’s head
covered with clay and rubble.
Really, I panic about crashing
into myself,
about me being the question and the answer.
L'hivernar de l'ós
catalán | Anna Gual
Em vaig enamorar
del cordó umbilical.
Em donava els requeriments,
me’ls oferia a la boca.
Ara visc en l’enyor perpetu
de totes les vides
a què m’hauria pogut amarrar
amb aquell conducte
de carn i visions.
La meva mare
encara no sap
de les pintures rupestres
que li vaig dibuixar
a la paret uterina.

The hibernation of the bear
inglés
I fell in love
with the umbilical cord.
It gave me the requirements,
it fed them to me in my mouth.
Now I live in the permanent longing
for all the lives
to which I could have linked myself
with that duct
of flesh and visions.
My mother
still knows nothing
about the prehistoric paintings
that I left
on her uterine wall.
Teoria del caos
catalán | Anna Gual
A la superficie
de la meva pell d’humana
hi ha restes
de saliva, petons, carícies, mossegades,
esperma,
xuclets,
talls, ferides, cops, llagues,
suor, cicatrius,
rascades, sang, crostes, blaus, lesions,
esgarrapades,
bufetades,
varius, butllofes i cremades.
No em calen ni perforacions ni tatuatges,
el meu cos
és un mapa.

Caos Theory
inglés
On the surface
of my human’s skin
there are remainders
of saliva, kisses, strokes, bites,
sperm,
hickeys,
cuts, wounds, blows, sores,
sweat, scars,
grazes, blood, scabs, bruises, lesions,
scratches,
slaps,
varicose veins, blisters and burns.
I don’t need perforations or tattoos,
my body
is a map.
Hipertensió
catalán | Anna Gual
La pressió
sempre ha estat elevada
al nivell en el que em moc.
Perquè si no arrisco no visc
i si no visc no té sentit escriure
i com viure sense escriure?
Així que la pressió
sempre ha estat elevada
al nivell en el que em moc,
perquè vull escriure, i no hi ha escrit sincer
sense que el cap del que escriu
exploti.
I per això tot el que faig
és a pressió i porta problemes,
perquè els problemes
són moviment, són lluita, són motor.
I per això tot el que faig
és a pressió i porta problemes,
perquè els problemes són inspiració.
I el viure surant
I la cuirassa transparent
enganxar-me
els dits a cada porta,
que jo vull entrar a un tornado i donar voltes
i tirar-me a un riu cabalós
i que se m’emporti.
La probabilitat de quedar-m’hi
sempre ha estat elevada
al nivell en el que em moc,
perquè si vull escriure he de viure i no patir
per si se’m para el cor.

Hypertension
inglés
Pressure
has always been very high
in the level in which I come through.
Because if I do not risk I do not live
and if I do not live there is no sense in writing
and how can I live without writing?
Therefore pressure
has always been very high
in the level in which I come through,
because I want to write, and there is no sincere writing
without the writer’s head
exploding.
And this is why everything I do
is under pressure and brings up problems,
because problems
are movement, fighting, motor.
And this is why everything I do
is under pressure and brings up problems,
because problems are inspiration.
And living smoothly,
I let it for the others, because I want
to eat earth clods.
And the transparent armour,
I let if for the others to wear it, ‘cause I want
to smash
all my fingers in every door,
because I want to penetrate the tornado and turn over and over
and jump into a wild river
to be taken.
The probability of losing myself in every of these facts
has always been high in the level
in which I come through,
because if I want to write I have to live and not to worry
if my heart stops.

Saudade
inglés
The wind makes no sound
But you hear it
As it touches things.
Thus, the poem.
