Ve znaku

checo | Jaromír Typlt

Probudilo mě něco v páteři.
Propnutí
až nadoraz ke zprolámání,
hrozná bolest, musel jsem z toho prorazit ven:
už ani luk
ani kniha

ani kniha
ani luk
už se to nedalo dál snášet.

Zvednul jsem se,
chvíli tak na posteli v polospánku,

dokud se mi nepodařilo rozpoznat,
co je to za znaky
a proč ve mně váznou.

Luk
pozvolna ztrácel zatuhlost,
brzy se ohýbal a napínal docela hladce,
bez lámání.

Kniha
konečně povolila v hřbetu,
přestala se rozpadat
a nechala se rozevřít na kterékoliv stránce.

A bolest se pomalu rozpouštěla,
jak to tak zapadalo do sebe,
za chvíli jsem se mohl položit
a znovu klidně usnout.

Na obratle jsem za celou tu dobu
ani nepomyslel.

In The Sign

inglés

Something in the spine awoke me.
Stretching
At full throttle till the breaking point,
Awful ache, I had to break through:
Neither the bow
Nor the book

Neither the book
Nor the bow
It couldnʼt be brooked any longer.

I heaved,
A while on the bed in half-sleep

Until I managed to recognize therein,
what these signs are
and why they’re stuck inside me.

The bow
gradually lost its rigour,
bending and drawing, smoothly, at last,
without breaking.

The book
finally loosened its binding,
didnʼt fall apart, at last,
holding together openings on all pages.

The ache dissolved, slowly,
As it all fit together,
In a while I could lay myself down,
And fall asleep peacefully.

Throughout, the vertebrae
werenʼt given a single thought.

Tmavě

checo | Jaromír Typlt

Jsem loď
a plaché ty,

když tě vítr žene
kolem prvních pevnin.

Zlehka si vplouváš
do příprav na ztroskotání,

když já se plazím do ztracena
s přímořskými státy.

Odrazily nás od sebe
tenkrát v noci

dvoje vody s jedinou hladinou

nebo dvě hladiny
na jediné vodě?

Od protějších břehů se nese křik,
jaký dokáže šířit jen tma

včas přivolaná. Než se vrátíš,
svoje stáří už neurčím.

Prokřehlý chladem balvanů
budu s nimi vyhasínat statisíce let.

Ale voda, ta tu chladne
teprve od západu slunce.

Darkly

inglés

I’m a ship
you as ailing

as when the wind drives you
round the first mainlands.

You sail in lightly
into shipwreck preparations,

as I creep taperingly
with seaside states.

They pushed us off each other
then in the night

two waters with one water-level

or two water-levels
on one water?

From the opposite shores comes a crying,
the sort only darkness can spread

when summoned in time. Before you return
I won’t be able to determine my age.

Numb with the coldness of boulders
I’ll smoulder with them for hundreds of thousands of years.

But the water’s been cooling down here
only since the sunset.

Vztlak

checo | Jaromír Typlt

Ale to jen napodobuješ vodu,
když si tě nabírá.

A tak si hladiny mezi sebou porovnají
svoji nadmořskou výšku
a ty se jim tam někde zaleskneš
jako kaluž, která neoplácí
stejnou mincí.

Dokonce ani za déšť už se neschováš,
déšť, který ustrnul v sopečném popelu,
čerstvě prvohorní
do chvíle, než ho někdo odkryl a očistil,
odřízl perlivě posetou
tenkou vrstvu,
přenesl ti ji na dosah a zasadil za sklo.

Pro takovou chvíli
by ses celým tělem rozčeřil.

Ale ani tak bys nebyl víc než
voda, která stoupá vzhůru,
aby se rozhlédla po okolních vodách,
ale cestou si jen tak zkouší
plnit, lámat, svírat,
srážet vlny pěstí.

Zůstaň si ve svém skupenství
mírného zákalu na dně.

Když se tam dost skrčíš,
můžeš se ještě stát
ponorným vařičem.

Upthrust

inglés

But you’re just mimicking water
as it scoops you up.

And so water-levels mutually compare
their elevations above sea-level
and you’ll glimmer somewhere there briefly
like a puddle who never pays back
with the same coin.

You won’t even hide behind the rain anymore,
rain that got stuck in volcanic ashes,
freshly paleozoic
until the moment somebody unearthed and cleaned it,
cutting off the sparklingly strewn
narrow layer,
carrying it over within your reach and glassing it.

For such a moment
your whole body would gladly ripple.

But even as such you wouldn’t be more than
water rising upwards
in order to look around the surrounding waters,
trying underway
to fill in, to break, to grip,
to knock the waves off with a fist.

Remain, if you like, in your state
of a slight turbidity on the bottom.

If you duck enough down there
you still have the hope of becoming
an immersion heater.

Miska tekutého ohně: tak – přibližně –
vypadal kulový blesk tehdá na chalupě.
Na vteřinu jsme strnuli hrůzou a první
krůpěj studeného potu perlila na čele.

A kulový blesk plul místností (i kolem
košíků) tak krotce a ohleduplně, zvlá-
dnuté ego mi zpětně připomíná ten jeho
horký, klidný pohyb, zvládnuté ego při

silvestrovských piškvorkách, no nevím.
Tak náš milý blesk plul a plul a plul,
říkal nám „v IKEA jsou nás tisíce“, až
jsme pocítili lítost, že by mohl chtít

pryč.

A bowl of liquid flame: mild likeness
of that fireball then at the cottage.
For a second we were petrified, first
sweat beads pearled on our foreheads.

The fireball floated through the room
(past the baskets), so meek & gentle,
the curbed ego reminds me of the hot,
quiescent floating, ego curbed during

new year’s ticktacktoe, or, whatever.
Our dear fireball floated, telling us
“there’re thousands like me at IKEA,”
evoking regret that it should ever go

away.
Disappear

porate down the snake’s trail, zigzag
like a train on its exploratory track

nohy a břicho osvětlené baterkou.

A jinde

A jinde
totéž v menším. Zdi
rozlomené v půli,
zahlédneš tapety a místa, kam postavit stůl.
Vítr vane nedostavěným domem, který je samé patro
a holé schodiště.
Vystoupíš hned za rohem, aby ses tam vrátil.
Bude tam potrhaný plot,
provalené pletivo a vyvrácený sloupek.
Když vlezeš dovnitř a v chodbě někoho potkáš,
zarazíš se. Dokud nezjistíš,
že i on se zarazil.
Ani jeden z vás
tam nemá co dělat.

Projdete kolem sebe jako dva neprůhlední.
Při odchodu ovšem průhledně
vyšlapeš všechny stopy pozpátku

jako by už nemělo být

žádné
ven
ani vyvanutí.

Don’t Move

inglés

In that book you haven’t written,
there was one who kept repeating,
“get lost through the back door.”

You thought to yourself of extinction.
There’s a streak of goodness in you, after all!

But did you see the sparks flittering through the deadwood last night?
Like bullets amid the branches?
Whole streams,
transits through the various storeys like between tunnels
or freeway overpasses. In the air vents of the frontier
effulgent lines
disclosed the leakiness, the fragility of the whole construction.
The fire branching out, escaping
via the branching-out of wood.
The drawing of the fire ticking off
the drawing of the wood.
It rushed through like blood through veins.

At night you saw approaching
a pair of legs and a belly illuminated by a flashlight.

And elsewhere
as if just a part of the ship were sunk.
The unveiling of loopholes, where the sight used to
bump into the wall.
Open space, obstacles disappearing,
a temporary waft of air.
From the storeys hang
thousands of torn-up cables, ducts, covering flitches.
A sort of
white shredded body.
You observe the pigeons alighting on torn-through concrete storeys
as on a cliff,
nature immediately occupying new formations, immediately recognising them,
though they’re fresh, created yesterday or today by the force
of tearing machines.

A fin torn out of you:
it’s time to loosen the fish’s.

And elsewhere
the same, only smaller. Walls
broken in half,
you catch a glimpse of wallpaper and where the table used to stand.
The wind blows through the unfinished house, all storeys
and a bare staircase.
You get off round the corner in order to get back there.
There’ll be a shredded fence,
a burst-through fabric and an uprooted column.
When you crawl inside and meet someone in the corridor,
you baulk. Until you find out,
he’s baulked as well.
Neither of you
has got any business being there.

You walk past each other like two opaque ones.
However, when exiting, you translucently
trace all the footprints backwards

as if there’s no longer meant to be

any
out
or blowing-out.
