Let everything happen to you:
beauty and terror.
Just keep going.
No feeling is final.
Rainer Maria Rilke
for what strange reason
this knowing you are all alone we are in this all together
at this end of the world that caught you out in your pyjamas
(we thought the apocalypse would be more epic, right)
for which we merely ask you to stay home
to wash your hands and sneeze into your elbow
was not so hard, no
it ought not to be so hard
yet boredom is both a luxury and a shroud
and solitude a bite into the beating heart
you who would love to go out naked as the day you were born
and set this springtime alight with every flaring gest of your body
who would have thought
that everything would turn out better without us
no that is not true
but even so it drills as an ulcer does that
in place of tourists, swans have returned to Venice’s canals
in place of tanks, wild boars strut down Barcelona’s Diagonal avenue
in place of bare twigs, trees blossom with buds tight as fists
it drills like an ulcer
perhaps we were meant to learn some resignation
to drown out our voice and our ego a little
(This could have been a good opportunity)
but we chose to switch over to life on the screen
my head is swimming with information
my ears are spilling over with so many new inputs
that my cornea is lashing back at me
but I am here writing something
about how I feel at this moment in time
and feeling equally blessed
none of this was usual to me before
learning to take life slowly was hard enough
without your urgent need to conquer me with all this intensity
I, who mustered enough self-restraint to learn to wait,
and had learned to approach relationships in the most hygienic of ways,
believed that I could now share a drowning voice
(at times, it is all like the void
(we almost crash into it
and to show that it could be done
in pain and in solitude
but also with gratitude and patience
to live 747 days (or longer
yet we never learn (we have learnt nothing at all
me neither perhaps that is why I am writing it all down
when the latest alert pops up on the screen
to report the daily infection and death rates
