A lead swan swims in the black wound of a canal.
It swims and doesn’t drown under the northern blue swell.
A lead coffin in the shape of a swan sways in the waves.
The wind with its palm caresses a green lawn’s unkempt wool.
In the lead coffin lies a swan – it is white like a swan is.
White like twelve constellations of stars piled in a heap.
It swims and doesn’t drown and won’t drown ever again.
The year of ashes, year of the devil and of the diamond shall pass.
Once more a swan will swim in the black canal.
Lead swan, on dying, where will I ever be laid to rest.

Nagu haav mustab kanal, kus luik hallist tinast,
ei ta upu ei vees ega pilvede sinas.
Justkui seatinast kirstu seal kiigutaks laine,
kõrval tuul paitab luhta, mis tõrksam kui naine.
Magab tinases kirstus üks luik luigevalge,
kaksteist tähtkuju koos on ta tiivus ja palges.
Eal ei upu ta kanali soppa ja saasta,
olgu teemandi-, tuha- või kuradiaasta.
Mustal kanalil taas tinatiivune ujub...
Kuhu matta, kui sureb, see ränkraske kuju?

Ein Schwan schwimmt im schwarzen Schmerz des Kanals.
Schwimmt und sinkt nicht unter den blauen Rissen des Nordens.
Ein Bleisarg schaukelt vor den Augen des Schwans auf den Wellen.
Der Wind streichelt mit der Hand das zerzauste Wellengras.
Im Bleischwan liegt ein Schwan – weiß, wie meist die Schwäne.
Weiß wie die zwölf Sternbilder, auf einen Haufen gelegt.
Schwimmt und sinkt nicht und wird es wohl nie.
Das Jahr der Asche, das Jahr des Teufels, das Jahr des Diamanten wird vorübergehen.
Im schwarzen Kanal wird erneut ein Schwan schwimmen.
Der Bleischwan, der mich einst hinlegen wird, wenn ich sterbe.

Свинцовый лебедь плывет черной раной канала.
Плывет, не тонет, обрамлен облачным салом.
Свинцовый гроб в виде лебедя волны прячут.
Ветер выгладит на склонах грубые пряди.
Гроб свинцов, а лебедь – бел, как бывает лебедь.
Белый, как сугроб из дюжин Больших медведиц.
Плывет, не тонет, и не утонет ни разу.
Минет год пепла, год лепры и год алмаза.
Черным каналом вновь поплывет один лебедь.
Свинцовый – тот, что по смерти меня приветит.
