Maryja Martysievič was born in Minsk in 1982. She is a poet, literary critic, and a translator and has graduated form Belarusian State University (Philology) in 2004, from Belarusian Collegium (Philosophy/Literature) in 2005 and finished her postgraduate studies in the Literary Theory in 2007.

Since 2002 is a member of the international “Translatorium” group, which joins literary translators from Belarus, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. Since 2005 have taken part in several poetry festivals in Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Slovakia. She has been the Homines Urbani scholarship holder at Villa Decius (Kraków, Poland) during the autumn of 2007.

Maryja Martysievič writes for Belarusian cultural papers and magazines and translates prose and poetry from Czech, English, Polish and Ukrainian. Her various literary translations include Jáchym Topol from Czech, Viktor Neborak from Ukrainian and particularly numerous Polish poets and prose writers, e.g. Stefan Chwin, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, and Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński.

She has been among the finalists in the literature competition of the Belarusian PEN Club and had her poems published in various Polish, Belarusian and international magazines and anthologies. In 2008 she published the book of “the essays in prose and verses” (“Cmoki liatuć na nierast”) “Dragons fly to spawn”.

Maryja Martysievič is living in Minsk.
