Margarida Vale de Gato (born in 1973) is the author of the poetry collection Mulher ao Mar (2010), and of its later enlarged edition, Mulher ao Mar Retorna (2013). She has also published the chapbook Fernando Pessoa e a Literatura dos EUA do Século XIX (2011), various poem in anthologies (O Prisma de Muitas Cores, Divina MúsicaQuarto de Hóspedes e Em Lisboa, Sobre o Mar), national and international literary journals (Criatura, Colóquio Letras, Enfermaria 6, Golpe d’Asa, Pena Ventosa, Portuguese Studies, Relâmpago, Quimera), short stories in Jovens Escritores 03 Um Rio de Contos, as well as a play co-authored by Rui Costa (Culturgest, 2011).

Recipient of the 2012 Alberto de Lacerda Translation Award, she translates French and English authors like W. B. Yeats, Edgar Allan Poe, Henri Michaux, René Char, Nathalie Sarraute, Lewis Carroll, Jack Kerouac, Sharon Olds, Alice Munro and Vladimir Nabokov.
She is Assistant Professor in the English Department of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, where she teaches in the areas of American Studies and Translation. As a full research member of ULICES (University of Lisbon Centre of English Studies), she published several essays within her research interests, such as Edgar Allan Poe em Portugal (2009) and The Anthology in Portugal, co-authored with Patricia Odber de Baubeta and Maria de Lurdes Sampaio (vol. 2, 2013).
