Donald Revell was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1954. He is a poet, essayist, translator and professor. Revell received his B.A. from Harpur College in 1975, his M.A. from SUNY Binghamton in 1977 and his Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo in 1980.

Revell has taught at the Universities of Tennessee, Missouri, Iowa, Alabama, Colorado and Utah. He currently teaches at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he lives with his wife, the poet Claudia Keelan. In addition to his writing, translating, and teaching, Revell was the editor of Denver Quarterly from 1988 to 1994, and has been a poetry editor of the Colorado Review since 1996.

Revell is also the author of three volumes of translation: Rimbaud’s A Season in Hell, Apollinaire’s Alcools and The Self-Dismembered Man: Selected Later Poems of Guillaume Apollinaire. Revell’s critical writings include Invisible Green: Selected Prose and The Art of Attention: A Poet’s Eye. Furthermore, Revell has been the recipient of numerous fellowships, among others from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as from the Ingram Merrill and Guggenheim Foundations.
