Carolina Pihelgas was born in Tallinn in 1986. She studied theology at the University of Tartu. To date, Pihelgas has published seven collections of poetry, and a novel.

Pihelgas was the editor-in-chief of the Estonian literary journal Värske Rõhk, which focuses on young authors. Now she works as an editor in the literary journal Looming. She has also translated poetry by Constantine Cavafy, Sappho, Tor Ulven, Bo Carpelan, Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Octavio Paz, Nikola Madzirov, and many other authors into Estonian.

Pihelgas received the Gustav Suits Award for Poetry in 2012.
