georgian | Alex Chigvinadze

Christmas Eve's Pharmacy

english

I was born in a nocturnal pharmacy from an empty street,
two hookers strolling in with faces all in lipstick.
Their cheap perfume couldn't cover the smell of dirt and winter chill.
They came to worship me, They came and told me
they had a vision, a revelation.
Drunk angels sitting on the sidewalks
Didn't bother to hurry home.
Their sad song barely reaching us. Streets decorated for Christmas
And the last of the cabs sprinkled
the neon woods reflected in puddles. I was born in a nocturnal pharmacy,
and swallowed colorful pills instead of sweets.
and others read me drug facts instead of fairy-tales. I didn't come
outside even for a single time
I thought these trees of dawn would never change,
in front of the transparent and colorful department store. Black street
was prescribed to lie down for good.
Our guests are the junkies, the drugstore cowboys,
the sick ones and sleepless wives in blue nightgowns,
they never caressed me, but I could feel they had always believed in me.

georgian | Alex Chigvinadze

Scream out, you people!

english

Scream out, you people!-
Cried out some kid in the subway.
Everyone looked in the direction
the voice was coming.
As if they were waiting for the call. Scream out, you people!
Open up the black caves
And touch the tongues to tongues
Tongues to eyes, Tongues to icons, Tongues to genitals.
Scream out on roofs, in cathedrals, in woods
So loud
that your share of calm
could stay just as yours.
So, scream out, you people! God's gone deaf
The universe's gone deaf Hope has gone deaf
Beauty has gone deaf Silence has gone deaf
And quit looking for that kid who commanded you to this-
The kid sat in your head,
and in your veins, and in your passions.
Scream out,
'till you turn mute,
'till you turn pale,
'till you turn helpless. Leave the past
and scream the brutality .
But just don't scream out words
And scream out  bombs
And planes
And skies
And sleeps stocked up with dreams. Just don't scream out
the words Instead, scream out the Virgin Maries stocked up
with embryos,

And cities stocked up with solitude.
Scream out the doll heads and raised hands stocked up
with newspaper pieces
And scream out the nights
stocked up with caresses; Scream out, you people!
You've been putting up with it for too long a time.
