[womit soll man beginnen]

[with what should one begin]

with what should one begin if one has walked, counting off
the moons like an alphabet. with this hamlet, this
courtyard-emptiness, between barn and woods, not even wind and.
what the fog chokes out hangs in the morning grasses.
a dampness, a heaviness, your hair divided in the middle. it trickles
and i smooth it out, dull light. i don’t swallow. what i’m waiting for
doesn’t   happen.  with   which   pronoun   should   i   provide   you   and
to what end should i breathe. a twitch in the grass blades, before i forget,
from which animal or was there one. in the distance a thunderstorm gathers
into itself and where to. you count a burned-down house and in it
was nothing but a bed, a chair, a table and my bed, my chair,
my table. my sleep falls into a slant. from then on
one can’t remain, only question. where does one carry this region to.
and with what does one feed the fog.

* 12.01.1993, Munich, Germany
lives in: Leipzig, Germany

Ronya Othmann (b. 1993 in Munich) writes poetry, fiction and essays and is a member of the GID poetry collective. Being herself the daughter of a Kurdish-Yazidi father and a German mother, Ronya Othmann deals with themes of migration, homeland and war. In her poetry she sees language as material that can be joined closely together, made to make playful sounds and even be crossed out, and with which she catches moments as in miniatures.
