Sie nimmt trockene Wäsche von der Leine ab,  etwas knistert.
Der Wind spielt mit dem Laub, kriecht ihr unter das Kleid.
Sie ist Geisel der täglichen Nachrichten und des niedrigen Luftdrucks,
Auch des Alltags, sie denkt: bald sind wir wieder zu zweit.

Paar Tage noch, und ich wasche seine Militärform mit all den Belegen
Von Angst, Müdigkeit, Wut, mit Grasflecken auf Knien.
Und dann setzen wir uns vis-a-vis mit hellen Gesichtern,
Und ich räume alle Erinnerungen aus seinem Kopf weg.

Dann brühe ich uns Johannisbeerentee auf,
Ziehe meine schöne Spitzenbluse an. Um uns herum wird es still,
Die Sonne fällt in die Nesseln hinter den Schrebergärten
Und meine Brüste sehnen sich nach seinen dunklen Händen.

Sie sagt sich, noch eine Weile, und dann werden wir alle glücklich.
Es reifen die Äpfel, die süßen Beeren, die Gurken.
Die Schlachten enden, und die neuen Fluten schwemmen uns
Zu normalen und etwas bitteren alltäglichen Sachen.

Die Wäsche knistert in Händen. Das Licht schleift die Schläfen.
Ein Käferchen kriecht ihren mageren Rücken entlang
Sie riecht an den gewaschenen Hemden wie im Versuch,
Sich an seinen Geruch vor dem Krieg zu erinnern.

Und dann greift sie zum Eimer, schöpft Wasser,
Wäscht sich nachdenklich, steht da, klein und schmalschultrig
So wird es sein! Ich schließe die Türen und lasse ihn nicht heraus!
Solange mindestens sein Kriegsurlaub dauert. Solange mindestens.

She’s taking down the dry laundry and something cracks.
The wind plays with the leaves; it whirls up under her dress – up to her nudity.
This hostage of the daily news, of low blood pressure
and everyday life, she thinks: just a bit more and I’ll be with him.

One more day and I’ll wash his uniform with all its proof of

Then she takes a bucket, fills it with a splash of water,
she washes, thinking, and standing – a petite figure with narrow shoulders.

Ona zdejmuje pranie ze sznura, coś trzeszczy i
wiatr bawi się liśćmi, wchodzi pod sukienkę – do nagiego ciała.
Zakładniczka niskiego ciśnienia, porannych wiadomości
i rutyny, jeszcze trochę, myśli, i nie będę już sama.
Jeszcze dzień i wypiorę mundur ze wszystkimi oznakami
zmęczenia, strachu, gniewu, roztartej na kolanach trawy,
potem usiądziemy przy sobie z prostymi wyrazami
twarzy, i będę usuwać wspomnienia z jego głowy.
Potem z gałązek czarnej porzeczki zaparzę herbaty,
wcisnę się jakoś w tę koronkową, a wokół będzie cicho,
za cudzym ogrodem słońce wpadnie w pokrzywy,
w przeczuciu ciemnych dłoni piersi omdlewać będą.
Mówi sobie: jeszcze trochę i odetchniemy szczęściem.
Obrodzą jabłka, potem jagody, a potem ogórki.
I porwie nas codzienność, zwykła, z gorzkim posmakiem.
Wraz z nowym przypływem przyjdzie kres tej rzezi.
Pranie trzeszczy w dłoniach, promyk policzki skrobie.
Aż po jej chudych plecach maszerują dreszcze.
Wącha czyste koszule, jakby chciała sobie
przypomnieć, jak pachniał wtedy, przed wojną jeszcze.
Potem bierze wiadro, nabiera trochę wody,
Myje się, myśli, w talii taka wąska, takie drobne ciało.
Tak! Zamknę drzwi i nie wypuszczę go już nigdy!
No chociaż do końca przepustki… Dobre i to, dobre i to.

Aplega la bugada eixuta, i alguna cosa cruix.
El vent juga amb les fulles, li alça el vestit – la despulla.  
Ostatge de les notícies, de la pressió baixa     
i del dia a dia, ja s’ho imagina: en un no-res, seré amb ell.

Encara un altre dia – li rentaré l’uniforme i amb ell totes les proves: 
l’esgotament, la por, la ràbia, els refrecs d’herba als genolls, 
i seurem l’un vora l’altre, dos rostres, sense més,  
i li trauré un a un els records del pensament.         .                           

I després, faré un te amb brots de groselles,                                       
em posaré les millors blondes, i es farà el silenci entorn nostre,
el sol s’ajocarà damunt les ortigues dels jardins llar enllà,   
i els meus pits es deliran per les seves fosques mans.         

Un xic més tan sols – es diu a si mateixa – i tothom feliç de nou.
Les pomes maduraran, les seguiran les maduixes i els cogombres.
S’acabarà el carnatge i unes noves marees se’ns enduran
cap a la rutina, a penes amarga, dels ritmes quotidians.

La bugada xopa a les mans, la llum li tiba les galtes,
un calfred li recorre l’espinada.
Ensuma les camises netes i fa un esforç                                                        
per recordar l’olor que ell feia abans, abans de la guerra.

Aleshores agafa un poal, en treu una almosta d’aigua                     
es renta i rumia, ben dreta, – una figura menuda d’espatlles estretes.
Ei, ja ho tinc! Tancaré la porta i no el deixaré sortir!
Bé, si més no fins que s’acabi el permís… Això, si més no.
