tod einer maus

rauheit des halses nur kleines falken &
schlagen sahen ruckenden auges (in
der erinnerung) hielten schon auf
(die hände) eine feldmaus dem räuber
entkommen in ihrem süßen felligen braun
die rührenden bewegungen sahen (maus-ich)
des mäuschens eifrigkeit und hingabe wie
es schutz suchte zuflucht sich drehte tanzte
bis wir tröstend auf es herabblickten über
der kleinen pfütze in die es sich gelegt
abgelegt mit der ergebenshut des sterbenden
tiers sich gebettet. wie konnte es sein dass wir
nichts verstanden weder ihr ende noch uns
in die augen sahen es war der hochzeitstag
den wir nicht feierten vergaßen bereuten
es war endlich und vorbei
so haarig so süß und so starr

एका उंदराचा मृत्यू

घशाला पडलेली कोरड
जणू ससाण्यानंच घातली आहे झडप
पंखाची फडफड, गुदमर, घुसमट
भयचकित विस्फारलेली टकमक नजर
जिवंतपणाच्या आठवणीसाठी
आम्ही ओंजळ पुढे केली 
 
तो एक रान उंदीर होता हल्ल्यातून निसटलेला
त्याच्या गोंडस तपकिरी केसाळ देहाच्या
हालचाली होत्या हेलावून टाकणाऱ्या
चिमुकला उंदीर आणि धडपड त्याची 
परिस्थितीपुढे शरणागत, सुरक्षित आसरा शोधण्याची
 मोठी होतेय ज्योत विझण्यापूर्वीची

तो हलतोय, गोलगोल फिरतोय
जणू नाचतोय
पण आम्ही कळवळून खाली पाहिलं
तर त्या लहानशा थारोळ्यात मरणोन्मुख होऊन त्यानं अंग टाकलेलं
जणू कळलं  होतं त्याला
की मृत्यूच्या सावलीत असणार आहे अंतिम आसरा.
 
असं झालंच कसं, हे आम्हाला कळलंच नाही
त्याचा शेवट आमच्या तर लक्षातही आला नाही
एकमेकांच्या डोळ्यात आम्ही पाहिलंही नाही
लग्नाचा तो असा पहिलाच  वाढदिवस, जो आम्ही साजरा केला नाही
विसरलो, हळहळलो, पश्चात्तापानं उसासलो. 
तो शेवट होता आणि सगळं संपलं होतं 
इतकं दुख:द होतं ते! इतकं सगळं गुंता झालेल!
इतकं गोंडस होतं ! आणि आता इतकं निर्जीव इतकं ताठर झालेलं!

ઉંદરનું મોત

એનું નાનકડું ગળું ઘવાયેલું
બાજના ક્રૂર પંજાથી.
તેમણે બેઉએ જોયું આઘાતભરી આંખે.
તેને યાદ આવ્યું :
બેઉએ હાથ લંબાવ્યા હતા તેના તરફ...
હાશ, પેલા ઉઠાવગીરના પંજામાંથી ભુખરો ઉંદર છૂટી તો ગયો!
હાલત છે  દયાજનક ને એ ખાય છે લથડીયા
(હું...ઉં... ઉંદર)
પણ ઉંદરે જાણે એની દશા સ્વીકારી લીધી હતી,
એ શરણ શોધતો હતો
મરણોન્મુખ નર્તન કરતાં કરતાં.
અમે ઉપરથી જોઈ રહ્યા છીએ એને દીલાસાભરી આંખે :
એ પડ્યો છે નાના ખાબોચિયામાં.
અંતે એ એના ભાગ્યના શરણે ગયો શાલિનતાથી.
અમે ન તો આંખમાં આંખ મેળવી શક્યાં,
ન કશું સમજી શક્યાં :
ન તો અમે જોઈ શક્યાં એનો અંત
ન અમે જોઈ શક્યાં અમારા સંબંધનો અંત.
એ અમારી લગ્નતિથિ હતી,
પણ જાણે અમે ડોળ કર્યો એના વિસ્મરણનો.
અમે એની ઉજવણી ન કરી.
આ હતો અંત, આ હતો નિશ્ચિત અંત :
મૃત્યુ, મૂંઝવણો અને મીઠાશો.

Ulrike Draesner, born 1962 in Munich, lives in Berlin. Studied German, English and Philosophy in Munich and Oxford. Ph.D. 1992. Free-lance author, translator, literary critic and editor since 1994.

Draesner has received numerous awards, her latest being the Hölderlin Förderpreis 2001 and the Preis der Literaturhäuser in 2002.
