A new girl in town (II)

Cîţi ani ai?
Dacă asta m-ai întreba ce-aş răspunde?
15?
Visul m-a aruncat afară cu putere, cu ură.
Sînt o fată de 15 ani.
Mai semăn doar foarte puţin cu un băiat de 15.
Dar ai putea să-mi vorbeşti, ai putea să mă iei în serios,
aş putea să aflu, aş putea să te-ascult.
|mi plac oamenii puternici care ştiu să mă-înveţe,
iar eu învăţ repede.
Urechile mele aşteaptă s-audă, mîinile mele să mîngîie,
sînii mei demult înmuguriţi înţeapă aerul de dimineaţă pînă seara
şi-apoi se înfierbîntă singuri o noapte întreagă
în aşternuturi apretate,
părul meu aleargă o dată cu mine,
m-aş putea îmbrăca numai cu el şi tot m-ai recunoaşte,
corpul meu e pregătit aproape pe de-a-ntregul.
Mama mea nu m-a învăţat cum să te mîngîi,
da, acasă nu am învăţat niciodată nimic,
acasă ne ţinem strîns de mînă,
dar nu ne mîngîiem niciodată,
eu cu mama mea şi cu tatăl meu,
care e doar soţul ei.
Acasă ne ţinem strîns de mînă unul de celălalt,
şi asta doare,
oare întotdeauna doare aşa?

Quanti anni hai?
Se me lo chiedessi cosa risponderei?
15?
Il sogno mi ha buttato fuori con forza, con odio.
Sono una ragazza di 15 anni.
Sembro ancora, ma pochissimo, un ragazzo di 15 anni.
Comunque potresti parlarmi, potresti prendermi sul serio,
potrei sapere, potrei ascoltarti.
Mi piacciono le persone forti che hanno qualcosa da insegnarmi,
e io imparo in fretta.
Le mie orecchie aspettano di sentire, le mie mani di accarezzare,
i miei seni sbocciati da tempo pungono l’aria da mattina a sera
e poi si riscaldano da soli per tutta la notte
tra lenzuola inamidate,
i miei capelli corrono assieme a me,
potrei vestimi solo dei capelli e mi riconosceresti comunque,
il mio corpo è quasi pronto.
Mia madre non mi ha insegnato ad accarezzarti,
sì, a casa non ho mai imparato niente,
a casa ci teniamo stretti per mano,
ma non ci accarezziamo mai.
A casa ci teniamo stretti per mano,
e fa male,
farà sempre così male?

Svetlana Cârstean, born in Botoșani, Romania in 1969 is a poet and a journalist. She studied Romanian and French literature at the University of Bucharest. As a student, she founded and coordinated the literary circle 'Central', along with Razvan Radulescu, T. O. Bobe and Cezar Paul-Badescu, and later she joined 'Litere' literary circle at the Faculty of Letters, University of Bucharest whose director was the poet Mircea Cărtărescu, one of Romania’s most significant proponents of postmodernism.

Her first poems appeared in the review 'Adevarul Literar si Artistic' in 1993 and in the anthology 'Family Picture / Tabou de familie' (together with Sorin Gherguţ, Razvan Radulescu, Cezar Paul-Badescu, T. O. Bobe and Mihai Ignat; Leka Brancus, 1995). 'Floarea de menghină' [The Vice Flower], her first book, was presented at the Bucharest Book Fair in June 2008. Highly emotional and playful, her poems have brought her much attention at home and abroad as well as prizes and fellowships. She contributed poetry and articles to the following literary reviews: “Luceafarul”, “Adevarul Literar si Artistic”, “22”, “Dilema”, “Interval”, “Euresis”, “L’Invitation”, “Cartea” and “Exces”. .

Svetlana Cârstean has worked as a freelance journalist for press and television and has edited various magazines and anthologies. She lives and works in Bucharest, where she also teaches French.
