JUST SAY NO TO FAMILY VALUES

On a day when
you're walking
down the street
and you see
a hearse
with a coffin,
followed by
a flower car
and limos,
you know the day
is auspicious,
your plans are going to be
successful;
but on a day when
you see a bride and groom
and wedding party,
watch out,
be careful,
it might be a bad sign.

Just say No
to family values,
and don't quit
your day job.

Drugs
are sacred
substances,
and some drugs
are very sacred substances,
please praise them
for somewhat liberating
the mind.

Tobacco
is a sacred substance
to some,
and even though you've
stopped smoking,
show a little respect.

Alcohol
is totally great,
let us celebrate
the glorious qualities
of booze,
and I had
a good time
being with you.

Just
do it,
just do it
just don't
not do it,
do it.

Christian
Fundamentalists,
and fundamentalists
in general,
are viruses,
and they're killing us,
multiplying
and mutating,
and they’re destroying us,
now, you know,
you got to give
strong medicine
to combat
a virus.

Who's buying?
Good acid,
I'm flying,
slipping
and sliding,
slurping
and slamming,
I'm sinking,
dipping
and dripping,
and squirting
inside you;
never
fast forward
a come shot;

milk, milk,
lemonade,
round the corner
where the chocolate's made;
I love to see
your face
when you're suffering.

Do it
with anybody
you want,
whatever
you want,
for as long as you want,
any time,
any place,
when it's possible,
and try to be
safe;
in a situation where
you must abandon
yourself
completely
beyond all concepts.

Just say No
to family
values.
We don't have to say No
to family values,
cause we never
think about them;
just
do it,
just make
love
and compassion.

SAG EINFACH NEIN ZU FAMILIENWERTEN

An einem Tag wenn
du durch die Straßen
läufst
und du siehst
einen Leichenwagen
mit einem Sarg
gefolgt von
einem Blumenwagen
und Limousinen,
weißt du, der Tag
bringt Glück,
deine Pläne werden
erfolgreich sein;
aber an einem Tag, an dem
du eine Braut und einen Bräutigam siehst
und eine Hochzeitsgesellschaft,
pass auf,
sei vorsichtig,
es könnte ein schlechtes Zeichen sein.

Sag einfach nein
zu Familienwerten
und hör nicht auf
mit deiner täglichen Arbeit.

Drogen
sind heilige
Substanzen,
und manche Drogen
sind sehr heilige Substanzen,
bitte preise sie,
denn sie befreien irgendwie
den Geist

Tabak
ist eine heilige Substanz
für manche,
und auch wenn du
das Rauchen aufgegeben hast,
zeige ein wenig Respekt.

Alkohol
ist absolut großartig,
lass uns feiern
die herrlichen Eigenschaften
von Schnaps,
und es war
so schön
mit dir.

Tu’s
einfach,
tu’s einfach,
hör einfach nicht auf
es zu tun,
tu’s einfach.

Christliche
Fundamentalisten
und Fundamentalisten
im allgemeinen
sind Viren,
und sie bringen uns um,
vervielfältigen sich
und verändern sich
und sie zerstören uns,
du weißt doch,
du musst starke
Arznei geben,
um ein Virus
zu bekämpfen.

Wer kauft?
Gute Trips.
Ich fliege,
schiebe
und schlüpfe,
schlürfe
und schlage,
ich sinke,
tauche

und tropfe
und spritze
in dir drin;
spule
niemals
das Kommen vor;

Milch, Milch,
Limonade,
um die Ecke
Schokolade,
ich sehe so gerne
dein Gesicht,
wenn du leidest.

Tu es
mit wem
du willst,
was
du willst,
so lange du willst,
zu jeder Zeit,
an jedem Ort,
wenn es möglich ist,
und versuche,
sicher zu sein,
in einer Lage, wo
du dich
vollständig
hingeben musst,
jenseits aller Begriffe.

Sag einfach Nein
zu Familien-
werten.
Wir müssen nicht Nein sagen
zu Familienwerten,
weil wir nie
dran denken;
tu’s
einfach,
mach einfach
Liebe
und Mitgefühl.

Просто скажи Нет семейным ценностям

Однажды
ты пройдёшь
по улице
и увидишь
катафалк
с гробом,
за ним
машину
с цветами
и лимузины,
и знай,
этот день
благоприятен,
твои планы
осуществятся;

прямо в тебя;
никогда
не спускай
в ускоренном режиме;

молочко, молочко,
а там и лимонад,
тут рядом за углом,
где делают шоколад;

и не думали;
просто
сделай это,
просто займись
любовью
и милостью.

* 04.12.1936, New York City, United States
† 11.10.2019, New York City, United States

John Giorno, born in New York in 1936, was a highly innovative and influential figure; with a career spanning over 50 years, he is often considered to be one of the originators of Performance Poetry.

A key figure in the Factory art scene, John Giorno was a friend and contemporary of many of the most significant 1960s writers and artists, including Ginsberg, Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns, and was the subject of Andy Warhol’s experimental 1963 film Sleep.

In 1965 he founded the artist collective and record label Giorno Poetry Systems, which pioneered multimedia poetry, releasing over forty poetry LPs and CDs, as well as videos of live performances, by artists such as William Burroughs, John Ashbery, Patti Smith, Philip Glass and Laurie Anderson. Giorno also initiated the 1968 communication experiment Dial-A-Poem, which allowed callers to dial a number and listen to a recording of a live poetry performance. These innovative uses of modern technology brought poetry to new audiences, and were influential on later poetic movements, such as Spoken Word and Slam Poetry.

Giorno was also a pioneering Aids campaigner, and om 1984 founded the Aids Treatment Project, an organization which was effective in raising the public’s awareness of Aids long before it became an issue often addressed in public.

John Giorno’s latest book was the anthology, Subduing Demons in America: Selected Poems 1962-2007, published in 2008.

John Giorno died of a heart attack at age 82 on October 11, 2019, at his home in Lower Manhattan..
