At an ostracism the title is written on the piece of wonderfully blue ceramic

The expectation of tearing open the earth
when putting down a pen you say

resembles the expectation of the first men
across the Atlantic who disregarding any losses

set out like dogs to search for their master in the other
hemisphere It certainly doesn’t resemble

the calm out here on this field
There follows our customary silence

The year collapses and the ground
is frozen in the tumble I remember

the vagueness of the weather forecast this morning
and feel on both hands while you let them go

the ostracism of the wind which only
carries hither hats and perhaps some old papers

vindstille her på marken
Vores sædvanlige tavshed følger

Året falder sammen og jorden
fryser under styrtet Jeg husker

den vage vejrudsigt i morges
og føler i begge hænder mens du slipper

* 15.06.1973, Karlsruhe, Germany
lives in: Offenbach am Main, Germany

Silke Scheuermann was born on 15 June 1973 in Karlsruhe. After studying literature and theatre in Frankfurt, she continued to work there as a lecturer.

She has published both poetry and prose in various journals and anthologies, amongst others in ‚neue deutsche literatur’, ‚Beste Erzähler 2001’, edited by Verena Auffermann (DVA), and ‚Lagebesprechung’, edited by Kurt Drawert.

At the Literarischer März 2001 in Darmstadt she received, together with Sabine Scho, the Leonce-und-Lena-Preis ‚in recognition of the originality of her tone, a musical idiom of ironic melancholy that is well formed and yet knows how to embrace things almost nonchalantly.’ In their citation the jury goes on to say: ‚Here a poet, still young, promises to tell with great lightness of the fragility of all remembrance and love, to give them space and to let them become poetry.’
