Evolution

Arbeit macht frei,
Weizen und Spreu,
Atom für den Frieden.
Krieg und private Morde
Norwegischer Lachs, Hühnerbrust, Schweineschenkel,
Kopf und Schulter voran.
Wir feiern und inszenieren
man hat Lust auf Leben.

Evolution

Actually, there was an evolution.
The egg came first
The chicken is the sophisticated way
Of the egg to make another egg.
And at least another thousand small changes happened
Until the first cell was formed
And another thousand two thousand changes till the lonely cell makes
A simple fish, and more
Small random mutations
Until a frog.
And a thousand for a lizard, and a thousand for a wing of a bird
And another thousand for the bird to fly
And a thousand small changes until
A heart of men is formed, and thousand for eyes,
And thousand for skin and thousand for liver and
Thousand two thousand for the brain
For soul for thought for dream
The great chain of being
On one end simple fish
At the top the upright man with knife.
And the whole story through all of it all
And the earth moves at a speed of one hundred
Thousand kilometres per hour in its journey around the sun
Without noticing.
The fly we hit
Has an equal and opposite reaction
And if holding on enough time
Everything comes back.
And the moon shrinks and moves away but
The sun is perfect
And wondrous over time
And day has come
And will follow its other
Moves and sinks down,
Seen and forgotten.
Thus god’s chemical mistakes evaporate
And the dirty lies of us all
Arc de Triomphe, Statue of Liberty, Dachau,
Work Sets You Free
Wheat and Chaff
Atoms for Peace
War and private murders
Norwegian salmon, chicken breast, pork loin
Head and shoulders onwards.
We celebrate and dramatise
Feel like living.

Evolution

Mille autres petits changements eurent lieu
Arbeit macht frei
Le grain de l’ivraie
L’atome contre la paix.
La guerre et les meurtres privés,
Saumon de Norvège, émincé de poulet, jambonneau,
Tête et épaules en avant
On fait la fête en comédies musicales
On a envie de vivre.
