ചിലതരം കവിതകൾ

മണിമുഴക്കത്തിൽ 
കവിതയില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ 
അതുകേട്ടു നിങ്ങൾ 
പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കാൻ വരില്ലായിരുന്നു. 

മീൻകൂക്കിയിൽ കവിതയില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ 
അടുത്ത ദിവസവും 
അതേ നേരത്ത് 
നിങ്ങളതിനെ കാത്തുനിൽക്കില്ലായിരുന്നു 

പൂക്കൾ അതിന്റെ വിരിയലിനെ 
നാളേയ്ക്കു മാറ്റിവച്ചേനെ 
രാത്രിയിൽ കവിതയില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ. 

എന്നാൽ 
സ്വയം കവിതയായി 
ചമഞ്ഞു നിൽക്കാറില്ല അവയൊന്നും 
വ്യംഗ്യമോ 
ധ്വനിയോ ഇല്ല. 
അക്ഷരങ്ങളും കമ്മി. 

മണിനാദത്തിലെ കവിത മണിനാദം തന്നെ 
ഇരുട്ടിലെ കവിത ഇരുട്ട് 
ഒട്ടും അധികമില്ല 
കുറവും.

Leuteten die Glocken
nicht voller Poesie,
eilte niemand mehr 
um zu beten.

Riefen die Fischhändler
nicht voller Poesie,
an dem Tag blieben 
die Käufer fern.

Wüssten die Blumen nicht,
ob sie heute oder morgen blühen,
gäbe es keine Nacht voller Poesie.

Dennoch
preist keines dieser Dinge
sich selbst als Gedicht an.
Nichts bleibt verhüllt,
nichts wird verdichtet.
Die Worte sind karg.

Das Gedicht der leutenden Glocke ist das Leuten der Glocke selbst.
Das  Gedicht der Dunkelheit ist die Dunkelheit selbst.
Nicht mehr
und nicht weniger.

In the ringing of bells
If there was no poetry
Would you have flocked to prayers 
On hearing it? 

And in the fisherman's whistle
If there wasn't poetry
Would you wait for him
In the next day? 

And the flowers would have 
Delayed its bloom
To the day after
If there is no poetry in night. 

Yet they do not flaunt themselves as poems
No metaphors ,no implications 
Nor too many words in them

Poetry in bells Is the ringing 
Poetry of darkness Is the dark 
Not anything more
Nothing less.

Veerankutty, is a Malayalam poet of the younger generation. He has to his credit six poetry collections in Malayalam, one in English and three books for children. His poems have been translated into English, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi and Kannada. His poems have been published in several magazines like Indian Literature and Poetry international web magazine. He is the recipient of Cherussery Award, Abudabi Harithakshara Puraskaram, Tamil Nadu CTMA Sahithya Award and SBT Award. Veerankutty’s poems have been included in various school and university text books in Kerala. He is now working as Associate Professor in Malayalam at Govt College Madappally.
