Vera Burlak graduated at a musical school and at the philological faculty of Belarusian State University in Russian and Belarusian poetry for children where she is working today as a lecturer. She is also an actress, performer, translator of English literature, p.ex. of Lewis Carroll and a vocalist and instrumentalist of the art-punk-group “Zasrali kazarmu”. Since 1997 she has been a chef-editor of the self-edited magazine “Country Churchyard”.

Burlak began to write poems in early childhood; her poetry connects elements of poetry for children and of gothic tales in a humorous way.

Burlak participated, as a poet and as a performer of slam-poetry, in various international literature projects such as “Young Belarusian Poets’ Concert” (Moscow, 2001) and “The Month of Authors’ Reading” (Brno, 2007).

Her first book of poetry “For Healthy Way of Life” was published in 2003. Her poetry has been translated into Czech, English, German, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian and Esperanto.
