Tomas Lieske
Author

* 08.06.1943, Den Haag, Netherlands
lives in: Leiden, Netherlands

Tomas Lieske (1943) made his debut in Dutch literature at the age of 38, with poems published in the renown literary periodicals Tirade and De Revisor. A few years later he became an editor for Tirade and started publishing articles on poetry, which were collected in Een hoofd in de toendra (A head in the tundra) in 1989. By then, Lieske already published two collections of poetry of his own: De ijsgeneraals (The ice generals) and Een tijger onderweg (A tiger on the way).

In the nineties Lieske started publishing stories and novels, with considerable success. His first collection of stories, Oorlogstuinen (Gardens of war), was granted the Geertjan Lubberhuizen Prize 1993 and in 2001 his novel Franklin won the Libris Literature Prize, an important Dutch literary prize, for which his novels Nachtkwartier (Night quarters) and Gran Café Boulevard have also been nominated.

Stripping & andere sterke verhalen (Stripping & other tall stories), his latest collection of poetry, displays the typical world according to Lieske: not quite clear at all times, but constantly filled with beauty and pain, fear and love, fairy tales and horror stories.
