Liljana Dirjan - a poet and translator - was born in Skopje (Republic of Macedonia) in 1953. She graduated from the Faculty of Philology in Skopje, at the Department of Yugoslav literature and Macedonian language. In 1980-81 she stayed in Paris as a scholarship holder of the French government and the foundation Gubelkijan.

She worked as a journalist in a student magazine and in several other newspapers such as 'Vecher' and Vjesnik', while in the previous ten years she was the editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine 'Zhena'. She received the award of 'Studentski zbor' for the best debut book of poetry in 1980 and 'Miladinov Brothers' award in 1985. Her poetry has been translated and presented in a great number of selections and anthologies of the contemporary Macedonian poetry.

She is one of the founders and a member of The Independent Writers of Macedonia. Liljana Dirjan is editor of the regional literary magazine 'Sarajevske sveske' (published in Sarajevo, BiH).
