Julio Barco was born in Lima in 1991 and has studied there at the Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal.
He is not only a very versatile and prolific author, but also very active in the poetry scene.

He has published the poetry collections Me da pena que la gente crezca (2012), Respirar (2018), Arquitectura Vastísima (2019), Arder (2019), La música de mi cabeza-volume 7 (2019) and the novel Semen (2019). In 2020, in times of COVID-19, not only were four books published at once - Des(c)ierto and a new edition of Semen in Argentina, and with Sistema Operativo and Copiar, cortar, pegar, cargar two volumes of poetry in Colombia - but the following year, the poetry volume Semilla Cósmica was published in Peru and the work on four more books - the poetic essay Poetizando, the novel Enrique (novel) and the poetry volumes Mosaico and Cuaderno de Trabajo de la nueva poesía peruana - was as good as finished.

Julio Barco was the founder of the group Tajo, editor of the magazines Literalgia, Asia Sur, The fucking Times, director of the publishing house Higuerilla, he writes for the newspaper Irreverentes, and has participated in readings, workshops and concerts throughout Peru. In 2019, he founded lenguajeperu.pe, a blog for Peruvian and Latin American poetry and art.

He is or was also editor of Lima Gris, creative director of the magazine Poetiq Express, and manager of the cultural project Poético Río Hablador, which organises poetry projects and festivals in the district of El Agustino, the district where Julio Barco was born and raised.

He also regularly uploads videos on his Youtube account in which he reads his poems aloud.
