Jean-François Poupart is a Montrealer by birth. He is known as a poet, essayist, musician and teacher. Poupart earned a doctorate in modern literature from the Université de Paris-IV Sorbonne. He is currently teaching French literature at the Édouard-Montpetit College and is directing the Poètes de brousse collection for the publisher Les Intouchables.

Several of his poems have made it into French and Quebec anthologies. Poupart has participated in numerous public readings in Quebec and France, as well as working with journals such as Gaz Moutarde, Estuaire, Quaderni, Saison Baroque, Steak Haché and Europe. A composer and instrumentalist, Poupart has produced two albums. He plays guitar in a punk rock group in Montreal and, along with the musicians from Mutante Thérèse, has been the force behind the Poètes de Brousse Cabaret since 1997.
