Dragana Mladenović was born in 1977 in Frankenberg and grew up in Serbia. She graduated at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade where she studied Serbian language and comparative literature. She lives in Pancevo, a town near Belgrade, where she works as a journalist at Pancevac weekly, the local magazine.

Mladenović has published eight collections of poetry, since 2003. Already in her first book of poems she said „no to subjective and descriptive poetry” and devoted herself to investigating the language and social reality. Imitating the language of files, catalogues and children’s games, this author is questioning social, cultural and family models in the modern Serbian society and, at the same time, activating suppressed collective memories and associations of life in former Yugoslavia.

Her collection of poems Omot spisa (2008) interweaves past and present and daily life in times of war, Rodbina (2010) describes the fictional destiny of a Bosnian and Serbian family that both suffer from the impact of war. Her latest publications were the poetry-novel Magda (2012), and a book of engaged poetry, Slova ljubve (2014).

A number of Mladenović’s books have been translated into German, Swedish and Macedonian. Her poems have been published in several anthologies and magazines and she is the recipient of numerous awards.
